When Life Gives You Lemons...

The obvious next line is 'make lemonade', or so that saying goes. I happen to love lemons and they are the most alkaline food, so why wouldn't I?

But that saying ties nicely in to my previous post about doubt versus certainty.

See Life giving you lemons as a gift

When someone gives you a gift, what do you do? Do you accept it gladly (even when it’s not your birthday)? Or do you say “oh, you didn’t have to do that”?

What does denying the gift actually mean? Could it be…

  • that you don’t value the giver

  • that you don’t feel worthy

  • that you feel uncomfortable receiving

  • that you feel you must give something in return

The lemons in life are just like that - they’re gifts of awareness. They’re the universe’s way of saying: “Pay attention. Something needs to shift.”

My Own Lemons Recently

For me, the lemons came in the form of health challenges. At first I accepted them, but then I asked myself: “Okay, what’s the gift here - what am I missing?”

That question opened a door. It led me into shadow work and unpacking birth trauma. And while it wasn’t easy, it’s been deeply fascinating.

Choosing Fascination Over Fear

I chose fascination over fear. I listened to my intuitive self - saying yes when something felt aligned, and no when it didn’t.

And through this process, I’ve learned so much about myself, about doubt and certainty, and about the deeper guidance life offers when we’re willing to notice.

Lemons and Vibrational Energy

The lemons, in this analogy, are signals. They may start at a lower vibration, but they’re pointing us toward the opportunity to shift higher.

For me, that shift meant embracing the “feeling” side of my life - things like:

  • joy

  • belonging

  • surrender

  • inner stillness

As I’ve explored this, I can see how my early life shaped me. Spending my first months in an incubator created a drive for freedom at all costs. Recognising this has softened me. It’s deepened my practice - and it flows into how I support others.

I believe every healing practitioner gains their greatest wisdom from walking through their own lemons, trudging through the mud, and navigating the lower vibrations. That journey equips us to enrich the work we do for others.

Wouldn’t It Be Nice If…

If only we could skip the sour lemons and go straight to lemonade! But then we’d miss the incredible aha moments that come through challenge.

And for me - I wouldn’t trade those for anything.
